The truly bilingual Turunmaa Hospital belongs to the Intermunicipal Hospital District of Southwest Finland. The hospital offers specialized care services primarily for the Turunmaa region with its approx.. 23 000 inhabitants. The hospital’s services are also used by the inhabitants of other municipalities in Varsinais-Suomi, especially those of Turku and neighbouring municipalities.
Turunmaa Hospital does not have an emergency call service. The patients come to the hospital referred from the health care centre, the occupational health care or from the private sector.
The Unit of Psychiatry of Turunmaa Hospital, located in Parainen, also offers treatment of an on-call nature.

The Unit of Psychiatry of Turunmaa Hospital
In the Unit of Psychiatry, located in Parainen, there are outpatient wards for adults, children and adolescents, a treatment ward with 20 beds and a psychiatric rehabilitation unit.
The Unit of Psychiatry services primarily the municipalities of Turunmaa, but also the other municipalities of the Hospital District of Southwest Finland can use its services as needed.
History in brief
The somatic activities of the hospital began in 1951 as an intermunicipal federation for health and medical care for the Turunmaa region. Psychiatric activities begun at Norrgårdin sairaala in Parainen in 1960. In 1994 the name of the psychiatric unit became Turunmaan mielenterveyskeskus. In 2006 Turunmaa Hospital (Turunmaan sairaala) became a municipal public utility owned by The Hospital District of Southwest Finland. The hospital consists of a somatic unit in Turku and a psychiatric unit in Parainen.
